Bronson Wins Lucas Finale at East Bay

img_20180210_233505.jpg

St. Louis, MO (February 11, 2018)  In December at the PRI Show Kyle Bronson announced that he would be running for Rookie of the Year on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2018. The Brandon, Florida driver has surged on the scene of dirt late model racing over the past two seasons. Kyle caught the attention of many dirt late model fans during his run in a World 100 prelim night feature when he rode the cushion at Eldora for all she was worth and nearly won if it wasn’t for a mechanical failure that retired him from the event.

Last night in front of his hometown fans Kyle picked up the biggest win of his career holding off Jonathan Davenport at the line to go to victory lane for the $12,000 payday. After showing speed all week long it finally paid off on the biggest night of Speedweeks at East Bay. The race was a wild one with 11 cautions. Bronson took the lead with 6 to go and held off the best in the business on the last 2 restarts. Davenport finished 2nd, hard charger of the race Brandon Overton was 3rd.  Points leader Josh Richards was 4th and veteran Earl Pearson Jr rounded out the top 5.

Sunday night the Lucas Series will move to Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Florida to wrap up their 2018 Speedweeks.  Last years race in Ocala was one of the races of the year as Brandon Sheppard passed Scott Bloomquist off turn four for the victory. The action can be seen on LucasOilRacingTV.com.  Josh Richards leads the points heading into the event and Kyle Bronson leads the Rookie of the Year standings. Hot Laps will begin around 5pm CT.

St. Louis, MO (February 9, 2018) – It did not matter that Brandon Sheppard had to start 21st last night. Brandon rocketed his way to the front and held off a hungry Scott Bloomquist to pick up his second win of the week at East Bay Raceway Park. After being involved in a incident during his heat race the team scrambled to get him ready for the B main where he finished 2nd to advance to the feature event. After struggling early in the week Scott Bloomquist showed some speed with his heat race win and a runner up finish. Dresden, Ohio driver Devin Moran had another strong run with a third place finish Thursday night.

The last 2 nights at East Bay will continue tonight as the last 2 events will count as Lucas Oil point series events. With the World of Outlaws opener at Screven canceled due to unfavorable weather forecast the field of cars will be spectacular over the weekend. Hot laps will begin around 5pm CT tonight. All the action can be seen LIVE on LucasOilRacingTV.com.

Rocket Shepp Wins Opener at East Bay

IMG_20180206_072526

Photo: Rocket Racing (Twitter)

St. Louis, MO (February 6, 2018) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series kicked off their six straight nights of racing at East Bay on Monday night and the show did not disappoint. 40 cars signed in for the $5,000 to win lid lifter at the track called “The Clay By The Bay.” Several drivers including a couple Lucas Oil regulars chose to sit the night out as it was not a Lucas Oil Points night for the series.

The night began with Josh Richards continuing his dominance so far in 2018 with laying down the fastest lap in time trials. In heat race action we saw Kyle Bronson, Devin Moran, Josh Richards, & Bobby Pierce all pick up wins.  With a stout field of cars we seen several Lucas Oil regulars having to run in B mains. The B-main winners were Gregg Satterlee and Scott Bloomquist. The Dirt on Dirt sponsored Strawberry Dash went to Walker Arthur and he got the final starting spot in the 30 lap main event.

The feature was the race of the year so far in Late Model racing. The feature started with Josh Richards jumping out to an early lead before last years World of Outlaws Series rookie of the year driver Devin Moran took over the top spot around lap 5.  Devin Moran was on cruise control on what he considers one of his favorite tracks.  As the race neared the end Brandon Sheppard flexed his muscles and the two drivers battled for the lead in the closing laps.  With a few to go Devin seemed to have the victory in hand until lap traffic held up Devin a little and Sheppard was able to close in using the top side.  In the final corner Moran got held up by lap car Gregg Satterlee on the bottom and Brandon Sheppard used the top side to get side by side with Devin as they crossed the checkered flag. Sheppard won by 0.056 seconds over Moran.

In victory lane Brandon said his dad had talked with his car owner Mark Richards earlier in the day and told him to tell Brandon to get up on the wheel more. Brandon certainly did that making a last lap pass on Devin. Moran was heartbroken on his second place finish but was happy for his friend Sheppard.  The “Hurricane” Earl Pearson Jr rounded out the podium in his new Black Diamond house car ride. Earl said it was fun watching the kids put on a show in front of him in an interview after the race.

Blairsville, GA driver Jonathan Davenport finished 4th in his Longhorn Chassis for Lance Landers and the hard charger of the night was Scott Bloomquist rounding out the top 5.  Scott had to win a B main to make the feature and came from 18th starting spot to get a top 5 finish. The series will run night two at East Bay tonight. You can catch the action LIVE on Lucas Oil Racing TV at 5pm CT with Hot Laps.  See the final finishing order below.

Richards Starts 2018 Where He Left Off in 2017 in Victory Lane

St. Louis, MO (February 3, 2018) – The 2018 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series kicked off with the Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway.  41 late models entered the nights event. The Colonel Steve Francis, the new Lucas Oil tech director made his presence known as several, if not all cars had issues and had to go back to their haulers to make alternations to their bodies in order to pass tech on opening night. The pit area was littered with Lucas Oil regulars from 2017, new drivers joining the tour in 2018 and several World of Outlaws drivers shaking their cars down before their season begins next week.

Superman Jonathan Davenport flexed his muscles in qualifying setting overall fast time in his new team owned by Lance Landers and Mark Martin. Heat race winners were: Davenport, Owens, Richards, and arson.  B-main winners were: McCreadie and Zeigler.

The feature was exciting early as Jonathan Davenport and Josh Richards battled for the top spot. At lap 5 Richards took the lead and never looked back. 5 cautions slowed the racing action and no ruined the final outcome more than the last lap spin by Scott Bloomquist. 2017 Rookie of the Year Hudson O’Neal put on a show at Golden Isles, starting 15th and making his way through the field was challenging Josh Richards for the top spot in the final laps and had made a bold slide job move going into turn 3 on the final lap when the caution flew for spinning Bloomquist. On the final restart Richards held off the young O’Neal that has been dubbed “The New Deal.”

Joining Richards and H. O’Neal on the podium was Jonathan Davenport. Night 2 at Golden Isles Speedway will pay $12,000 to win tonight. Our southern region reporter Cole Perkins will be there covering all the action. Follow us on our social media outlets to stay up to date on all the action.
